Caring for your Ragdoll Kitten
It is important to remember. Owning a Ragdoll Kitten needs a big commitment in order to keep a cat healthy as they do require day to day care. A ragdoll cat can live as old as 15 years (or even longer in some cases).

Ragdoll kittens require feeding as many as the times required on the kitten food package. Your ragdoll kitten will need on a regular basis to be kept fit & healthy by ensuring your kitten takes part in excersize. This can be done by playing with the kitten toys that I hope you have.
You will also have to take into consideration, before getting your cat, that you will have vets’ bills to pay for annual vaccines, worming and if treatment is required for any illnesses. These bills can sometimes be very costly, but you can purchase insurance for your ragdoll kitten. The GCCF (The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) reccomends Agria, you can take a look at their site here.
Before getting your cat, you should purchase bowls for food and water, we have noticed that ragdoll kittens/cats especially prefers water fountains.
A litter tray is an essential item for your Ragdoll Kitten.
Did you know that the vast majority of litter trays on the market are too small?
Giving your cat a tray that fits his size and keeps him clean is essential to avoid problems of uncleanliness & what most new ragdoll kitten owners forget is, their kitten is going to grow much biggar than your normal cat.
You will need a large litter tray
Among the wide range of litter trays available in pet stores, choose one that is spacious enough for your cat to feel comfortable when he’s doing his business there. He must be able to turn around, scrape the material, and squat easily without being disturbed by the walls of the tray. The ideal dimensions vary depending on the size of your cat. If you have a large breed cat, such as a Savannah, Bengal or Maine coon, your litter trays should be much larger than those designed for medium-sized domestic cats, for whom the ideal size would be a 80-litre box (15” x 24” x 18”).
Please, do not put a plastic bag at the bottom of your litter tray. While this is very convenient to help you clean the litter tray. Most kittens/cats don’t like the feeling of their claws getting caught in the bag when scratching their litter to bury their waste. Instead, choose a compressed wood litter that will make cleaning easier for you.
Your Ragdoll kitten will need a place to snuggle up & sleep in, This is the sort of bed we use for our ragdoll kittens a few suitable toys, and some food. The food recomended by the magority of breeders in the Uk is Royal Canin Kitten & Cat food.
A ragdoll kitten should be fed throughout the day 4 times with a small amount of food each meal, reducing to 3 times a day at 3 months old, then at 6-8 months 2 meals per day. Older cats (over 12 months) should only be fed twice in the day (usually morning and early evening).
Cats groom themselves, but using a soft brush on the cat daily will help to cut down the number of hairballs in the cat’s stomach, which are caused by them licking / grooming themselves.
I do not think you should have a cat-flap fitted to your door in order that the cat can come and go as it pleases unless, your garden is fully secured (A ragdoll Kitten/Cat should not be allowed to roam freely). It is also important that any protection ie fencing is installed. The fencing needs to cover the top of the fencing also.
Cats like to sharpen their claws on most household furniture! Suites, corners of walls (thick paper), carpets. It is important that you invest in a scratch post – there are many to choose from. When the cat starts to scratch, lift the cat and place him/her next to the scratch post, they will soon get the message and use the post instead of the furniture.
It is often said that ‘a ragdoll cat looks after itself’. This is obviously not really true, but they do have a more independent nature than some other domesticated pets. That said, ragdoll kittens/cats make ideal companions when they ‘allow’ you to be their friend.
We have created a new website for breeders of Ragdoll kittens to add their own cat or Kitten here
